Checking the result without a calculator

Multiply by 250 and take off roughly one percent. Half a hectare lands near 124 decimal that way, and the exact answer is 123.55. It is a crude check, but it catches the most common mistake — a decimal point in the wrong place.

Decimal and dismil are not competing units. The spelling shifts by state while the area stays put at one hundredth of an acre, close to 40 square metres. If a Bihar deed and a Bengal extract describe the same plot in different words, nothing needs adjusting.
